This past weekend, I was in New Orleans for my friend Leah's wedding and for the Lady Gaga concert. I drove the five-and-a-half hours from Shreveport to New Orleans on Friday (hitting horrible traffic in Baton Rouge on the way). I was able to arrive in time for Leah's rehearsal dinner at Pravda in the French Quarter. I met Leah eight years ago in Torts class during my first year at Tulane law School, and we became friends quickly. Pravda is an interestingly decorated bar, but the rehearsal dinner took place in the courtyard behind the bar. It was a hot afternoon, especially for the second week in April, and the fire that was roasting the pig didn't help cool things down. It was nice to hang out with great friends from law school. We have dispersed to all corners of the globe, and it's nice when we have an excuse to get together like this!
The reception was wonderful, and afterward a few of us decided to go bar-hopping in the Quarter on a quest to look for Lady Gaga. We never found her, but we did find lots of drinks on the way... The following morning, the wedding was held at the Cafe Amelie, also located in the Quarter. It was a brief ceremony, and the reception after was lovely. More hanging out with law school friends, and great food that I hadn't had since living in New Orleans: jambalaya, mini muffalettas, all delicious! After the reception, Leah wanted to go to the Cat's Meow, which for those of you who haven't spent much time on Bourbon St, is a karaoke bar. She sang "You're the One that I Want" from Grease to her new husband, Andrew (I sang back-up). And later (after several of the three-for-one happy hour specials), I sang "I Kissed a Girl" by Katy Perry. Good times. The time came that I had to leave the party so that I could get ready for another party that only I and 19,999 other people were attending: the Lady Gaga concert. She was amazing. I didn't like the venue as much as when I saw her in Rotterdam last November, but I did like that she sang a few more songs, including her new single, "Born This Way". I was sitting in the front row, and sat near some chatty ladies from southwest Louisiana. It was fun. After the concert, I walked back to the hotel and passed out. The next morning it was up early for the drive back to my niece's fourth birthday party, which was also fun! All in all, a great weekend!
