After getting back from my New Orleans weekend, I spent the week getting ready for my up-coming trips to Central America, Micronesia, and East Africa. First up, was my application fro my second passport. I was worried that the government was going to shut down and wouldn't be able to apply for one, but thankfully it didn't. I spent about three hours putting together my application and supporting documents, but it was worth it when three days later, I opened the FedEx package and there were two passports in there! This is really going to facilitate my ability to travel since I can be applying for visas in one passport, while traveling with the other. Next it was on to all of the documents necessary for the safari that I am taking my Mom on. We went to the travel clinic where she had to get three vaccinations and I needed one and where we also got 'scripts for our anti-malaria medication. Since I had such a negative reaction to malarone, I decided to go back to larium (mephloquine). We'll see how it goes in June. Finally, I had some documents I needed to fill out for my trip to Micronesia next month and picked up a couple of long-sleeved Underarmor shirts for sun protection.
As for fun, I got to hang out with my niece and nephew who are getting bigger and smarter every day. I also went out a couple of nights to karaoke at one of the gay bars in town and then last night I went to a drag show at the other. Good times. There was the typical last minute scrambling, but everything got all packed up and done (including paying my taxes...suck!) and now that I'm sitting in the business class lounge in Houston, waiting on my flight to Merida, I am relieved that I was as productive as I was this week. But I would be lying if I said I wasn't very excited about this trip! Chichen Itza and other amazing ruins, here I come!!!
