Myanmar: Yangon to Mandalay

We were up and out of our gorgeous hotel, the former Governor's Residence, this morning and on our way to visit an extremely large reclining Buddha. Along the way, we passed the royal barge, which was a huge raft-like thing from back in the day.

We arrived at the reclining Buddha and it was evident that the Buddhas in Myanmar are different that the Buddhas I have seen in Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and elsewhere. They paint the skin white, paint make-up on Buddha and he is always smiling here.

After spending time with the reclining Buddha, we went to a monastery/orphanage to visit the kids. We had donated food for the week for all 500+ kids there, so it was nice to see their happy, smiling faces.

After the monastery visit, we had lunch, and then headed to the airport for our flight to Mandalay. The flight was on time and uneventful. We then had a long ride to the city and our hotel. We got all checked in, then had a happy hour before dinner.
