Well, after leaving Ho Chi Minh City, I flew to Phuket, where I spent four glorious nights relaxing and resting before the next leg of my trip.
Leaving Phuket, I flew to Bangkok, where I met the group I'll be traveling with the next 16 days. Seems like a great group!
We went to bed early because we had to be up well before dawn to get to the airport for our 8am flight to Yangon, Myanmar. The flight with off without a hitch, and we were on the ground in Myanmar before we knew it! We had a quick city tour, followed by lunch. It is interesting because they still have telegraph offices, because that was the main form of communication until the last few years!
After lunch, we got checked into our hotel, and then went to another hotel, the Strand, which was the big hotel to stay at during colonial times. We had high tea there, and then went to the huge pagoda made of solid gold. There is an estimate 96 tons of gold making up this pagoda. It was amazing and there was a group of Thai monks there chanting. An incredible experience. We were there for sunset, and then back to the hotel for dinner! Tomorrow we fly to Mandalay, and I can't wait!
