Palau, Day 1, Part 1

So, when we got in last night, the sun had already gone down and I never got the chance to really see anything except the store and house lights. What I didn't get to see was how ridiculously gorgeous this island (or a more accurate description would be group of islands) is. We got up and went to the dive shop that is in charge of taking us out each day (Fish 'N Fins) for breakfast and briefing. After what seemed like an eternity and signing away all sorts of liability, we were off to our first snorkeling spot of the day. The boat ride was refreshing and offered spectacular views of the blues and greens of the ocean, and the amazing greens of the islands.

First of all, I must apologize for the quality of the pictures. I did not take my Canon, I used my new underwater camera which does well underwater (as you will soon see) but doesn't do quite as well on land.

Our first snorkeling spot was called The Cemetery due to some stone mooring blocks that have fallen over, resembling fallen tombstones... It was a large enclosed area with lots of different species of coral and fish, and was a good first taste of what we would be seeing in the next ten days.

After finishing up our first snorkeling experience of the day, we were taken to another section of reef called Marlin's Rock. It was off this tiny island:

Again, I apologize for the quality of the above sea level shots.... We jumped in and saw more beauty all around us. It truly is remarkable the world that exists just below the surface!

After our second snorkel, we went for lunch. We were taken to a nearby beach, which as we were approaching it, looked familiar to me. I asked our guide if that was the beach where one of the tribes from Survivor: Palau stayed. He said no, it wasn't, and I was a little disappointed. But then he said, but that is where they filmed a couple of the challenges. Lunch was great, and then we off again to two more sites... But that's coming in part 2 of the blog. Too many pictures for one posting!!!
