Three of the four Heathers...
After the zip line we had a few more hours drive to the hotel, but we watched tv on the bus and in no time we were pulling up to our hillside hotel with an incredible view of the sea and forest. We spent the afternoon at the swim-up bar, enjoyed the sunset, then had a wonderful dinner at the hotel restaurant. Another guy on the tour and I weren't quite ready to call it a night, so we decided to go to a local bar named Liquid. The music was house/techno which I can tolerate, but I much prefer songs with words, s just after a few hours, we made our way back to the hotel.
The following morning, I had to get up at the ass crack of dawn because I was getting picked up to go diving at 7:40am. I was ready at the appropriate time, and before I knew it, I was fitted with diving equipment and off for a two-tank dive. The boat ride was spectacular! We passed several small islands off the coast, and could see the waves breaking on the reef. Eventually we got to our dive sites, and had two fairly uneventful dives. It had rained a few days prior and the water was quite murky, but the boat ride alone was worth the trip. I was too afraid of my camera getting wet, so I don't have pictures...
The rest of the day, I met up with the rest of the group who had spent the morning on the beach at our hotel pool, had some drinks and called it an early night, because I was quite tired from a late night the night before and knew we would be up early the following morning for our rafting trip.
The next morning, we made our way to the Rio Blanco and put in several kilometers upriver from where the river mess the ocean. We had a quick safety briefing and then were divided into three small rafts. The Heathers (four of us who had been on the Guatemala trip prior to this) were placed in a raft together. It was the only raft that no one fell out of, by the way... Again, I didn't take my camera for fear that it would be destroyed by the rapids, but we ordered pictures that the professional photographer who went with us took, and I can't wait to get my hands on then to share them with you. We went down class II and class III rapids. To put this in layman's terms: we got soaking wet! It was a blast, and I can't wait to post the pics! After a very long day, we made our way down the bumpy mountain road t our hotel, where I had a much needed deep tissue massage! After the massage, it was back to the pool bar, where we had some snacks, and I am considering making it another early night, since I am beat, and we have a long drive back to San Jose tomorrow. All that is on the agenda tomorrow is the trip back and then a farewell dinner, as on Wednesday we have our flights home. I will be sorry to say goodbye to such great new friends, but know I'll be making more in Micronesia later this week!
More later!
