We were up at 7 to pack, have breakfast, check out, and be ready to leave at 8 for the Serengeti. It was raining this morning along the rim of the crater. As we were leaving Ngorongoro, we ran into a pack of lions that I could have touched if I were dumb enough to stick my hand out of the window. I didn't get any pictures, though, because the weather was so nasty. As we made our way to the lowlands of Ngorongoro, the weather cleared up and got warmer. We stopped at Oldupai Gorge on the way to the Serengeti. Oldupai Gorge is pretty much the cradle of civilization. They have found all sorts of human remains from Australopithecus to Homo habilis to Homo erectus to Homo sapians. Pretty crazy how many different types of hominids they have found in this one relatively small area!
We then made our way down the extremely bumpy and dusty road to the Serengeti. We stopped at the entrance to the park, where we had lunch and climbed up an observation hill (kopje) and took in the view!
We then piled back into our vehicle and drove the rest of the way to our lodge for the next two nights (Serengeti Sopa Lodge), stopping along the way briefly to see some lions on Pride Rock and some hippos who were out of the water!
We made it to the lodge, had a little down time, showered, and then had another cocktail party and bonfire overlooking the Serengeti at sunset! We then had dinner, and called it a night!
