Tarangire to Ngorongoro (Leopard Fight!)

This morning we were up for our game drive in Tarangire National Park. It was known to have a good population of leopards, and since we had yet to see a leopard, we were hoping for a sighting! Boy did we ever! I was scanning trees looking for them, and sure enough, I saw one leaping from a tree, so I asked the driver to stop saying one had just jumped from that tree, and upon closer inspection, noticed a second leopard sitting near the top of the same tree. The leopard on the ground was hidden by tall grass, but we could hear the one in the tree growling and watching the one below. Finally, the one on the ground leapt up the tree and the two leopards fought until the limb under them broke and they both dropped to the ground. (I have an amazing picture of the two of them falling through the air, but I am going to copyright it and enter it into some photo contests, so I'm not posting it here.) After that, the one leopard ran away and climbed a closer tree to where we were, and stayed there, while the other marked the ground and then walked away.

It was truly incredible, a d even the guides who said they have been doing this for over fifteen years have never seen anything like it!

That was pretty much the highlight of the morning. We did see several new animals, including dikdik, mongoose, and a male lion with a huge mane (and his pride!)!

After our game drive, we headed back to our lodge for lunch, checked out and then had a five hour drive (including stops along the way) to Ngorongoro Conservation Area. As we arrived we stopped for a panoramic view. It was gorgeous!

We then headed to our lodge for the next two nights (Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge), got checked in, had dinner, and then called it a night after a view long, but exciting day!
