Today we were up early again for more explorations of the temples in the Angkor Wat complex. As I mentioned yesterday, I had no idea the size of this place. The UNESCO World Heritage site is over 400 square kilometers! Today we visited some lesser visited places. The first temple was magnificent. Like Angkor Wat, this temple was dedicated to Vishnu. This temple ink had one spire, as opposed to Angkor Wat's five. Also unlike Angkor Wat, I had this temple almost to myself!!!
After the visit, we drove to the bottom of a mountain, and I thought to myself, "Surely, we're not going to climb that thing!" We did. As I was sweating my ass off up the mountain, I thought to myself, "There better be something fucking amazing at the top of this thing!" There wasn't... All there was up there was a little waterfall and some carvings on rocks that you could hardly make out. They were over a thousand years old, granted. I think if I were in better shape, I may have enjoyed them more. After looking at then all, we made our way back down and it was time for lunch, which we had at a nearby local restaurant.
After lunch, we visited the Banteay Srei which was a temple from the 10th century. It had the most impressive carvings of any temple we have seen to this point! And to think that they are all over 1000 years old!!!
We stopped at a few more temples for photos on the way back to the hotel. I then had a 90-minute massage (for $15!) and then dinner. It was a great day!
