Laos to Cambodia (103)

This morning was an early one, as I had to be checked out of the hotel by 7am to get to the airport for my flight to Siem Reap. I got all checked in and the flight was on time and uneventful. We connected in Siem Reap to Phnom Penh. Another on time flight.

When we got to Phnom Penh, my driver and guide were waiting for me, and we first stopped for a late lunch. After lunch we went to the Russian market, which thankfully was devoid of Russians. After that we stopped by a dance school for kids where they are teaching them the old, traditional dances. Apparently, Cambodia has over 4000 different dances...

After that we made our way to the Buddhist temple on top of a hill in the center of town called Wat Phnom. There was something big going on there because they had police and guards everywhere. My guide thought the prime minister was coming. I didn't get to see him, but I did see the minister of defense and got to enjoy dancing and music! The inside of the temple was gorgeous, with painted walls and ceilings as well as a big statue of Buddha.

After that, they took me to my hotel for the next few days and I cooled off in my room and before I knew it, it was time to go out in the heat again for dinner. We ate at a local restaurant, and the food was just so-so. Tomorrow we get an early start to explore the city and the killing fields and genocide museum.
