First day in Iceland

So last night, I met my friend Robert and a fellow traveler on this trip (named Calvin) in the lobby of the hotel. We then took a cab ride down to a harbor-side restaurant for dinner. Along the way, we passed through the "downtown" area of Reykjavik and we also passed a docked Silversea cruise ship (the Silver Cloud). I was interested in the cruise ship, since I have never traveled with Silversea but will be later this year (on the Silver Wind), and was naturally curious since I'll be spending about three weeks aboard. It seemed a lovely ship and I just hope the Silver Wind is as nice as the Silver Cloud!

We arrived at the restaurant and had a table on the second (top) floor of the restaurant with an absolutely gorgeous view of the boats in the harbor, the water beyond and the mountains which touched the sky at the far end of the bay.

For dinner, the three of us split the 8-course tapas menu which I clouded such delicious local fusion dishes as lobster spring rolls, grilled BBQ monkfish, and fresh salmon bruschetta. Everything was delicious, and we washed that all down with some amazing champagne sangria!

After dinner, we took a leisurely stroll back towards our hotel. It was nearly midnight, but still only seemed like 7pm or so because it was still so light out. We stopped at a bar on the way for a nightcap and then returned to the hotel to head to bed for some much needed sleep.

This morning, my friend Gary joined the trip and it really has been a laugh a minute, he makes me laugh so much... We were joined by another traveler on the trip (Tim) for lunch today. We walked to the main strip of town and ended up at a cozy Italian restaurant for lunch. Afterwards, we were walking around and ran into Rob on the street (it's a fairly small town) and decided to go to a funky, local coffee shop, the kind that we used to have before Starbucks took over. We drank our coffees, lates, and cappuccinos outside on the deck, to enjoy the amazing cool weather!

After coffee we walked all around town, first visiting an amazing church at the top of the town. In front was a statue of Leif Erikson.

Inside was an amazing pipe organ, and there was dramatic organ music playing as we were inside

We continued our walk around town with a walk along the waterfront, where there was a modern statue of a Viking ship.

After that long walk, we made our way to the Icelandic Penis Museum, which was very interesting. I especially liked the prices, which included free entry for children age 13 and younger.......

All in all a great day in Iceland. Now I'm just about to get washed up for our group welcome meeting (where I'll get to meet the rest of the group) and then our welcome dinner! The tour officially starts then!!!!
