Lithuania: Vilnius to Klaipeda, via Kausnas

Today was a rather unstructured day, which was a good thing. Even though the time difference is only three hours ahead of Iceland, for whatever reason I simply am not able to adjust as couldn't get to bed until after 4:30am this morning, so when I had to be up and checked out of the hotel by 9am, I was hurting... At any rate, I was driven to the former capital of Lithuania, Kausnas, where I met my guide for a walking tour of the old town. This town was built at the confluence of two rivers in the 14th century. It began with a castle and spread out from there. There was a very charming town square and several old churches. Today was a holiday for the country (Assumption) so there was activity at each of the churches we visited. The town was lovely. After the tour, I was driven another two hours to the coast of Lithuania, to a town called Klaipeda. I grabbed a late lunch and enjoyed the outdoor seating and did some quality people watching, which really is one of my favorite things to do when traveling. After walking around the town for a bit, I came back to my hotel and read until I can hopefully go to sleep here shortly. All in all a good day, not too busy, but we have a lot to see tomorrow!
